The Controversial Conclusion Shot Almost Banned From ‘Girls’

Girls will be premiering its final season on February 12. What will this season bring? It definitely has brought a lot of controversy over the years. One scene in particular almost didn’t make it to the show because of how far it was willing to go.

HBO was going to “draw a line” over a conclusion shot. That means that the sex scene goes all the way. It even shows the final moment, which if you don’t know what that means, the adult film industry calls it a “Money Shot.” You got it now? Okay, let’s move on then!

The controversy with me is how far do you go? Of course, I like action movies and watching things blow up. When there’s a fight, I want to see the punches and the kicks. Put some blood in there for effect. That’s where I start when I’m talking about how far a movie should go.

Some writers have the need to go all the way with a sex scene. For whatever reason, they like to show as much as possible without going across the line to where they have to be rated “X”. Sometimes, that reason is for viewings. Hot sex scenes do raise the viewership. There are people out there who watch movies just to watch the sex scenes.

But, I’m a little old school. I’ve had sex. I know what it looks like. Sometimes, I think it’s even sexier to leave it to the imagination. Some nudity is fine. Some touching is good. But, they don’t have to actually have sex on the camera for me to understand what’s going on in the scene. I think it’s even sexier to tease people with it, but leave it out. Of course, that is just my opinion.

Lena Dunham

The show’s creator and writer though, she has a story to tell. I think that’s a very valid reason to be as graphic as possible. Sexual assault is something many people have experienced and they all don’t have a voice. In fact most of the time, their voice is taken away from them. It does them a service to give them a voice and I think Lena is doing that in her own strange way.

Zosia Mamet

Zosia is another beautiful actress in the show. Of course, you know I’m going to be highlighting all the beautiful actresses from the show.

Sex in movies have become more of a common thing though. Each movie pushes that envelope further and further with how far they are willing to go. Even television is pushing. There are scenes in regular television that would have been frowned upon a few decades ago. So, what does that say about the world we have become?

Jemima Kirke

Jemima is a very beautiful British actress who once tried to quit the show. Lena once told the story to Time magazine.

The fact that Girls is on HBO does make it a little different. I’ve been watching sex scenes on HBO since I was a kid after my mom went to bed. I’ve seen girls get naked and I even watched the sex education shows mainly because of the hot women. Hearing a hot girl talk about loving sex is HOTT!

Allison Williams

Allison is obviously a very beautiful actress. But, she’s also a comedian which means I’m pretty much in love. A hot girl that can make me laugh is my goddess.

So, HBO has been doing this all along. Did they finally find their line though? It doesn’t appear so. The controversial sex scene was in the show after much discussion. They knew they were taking a risk and they made it anyway.

Shiri Appleby

Shiri is a guest on the show. She’s the one who was in the middle of this controversy.

The controversial sex scene that we’re talking about has raised a lot of questions. In Season Four, it happens between Adam Driver and Shiri. It drew controversy because Shiri’s character expresses at the end of the scene, “I don’t think I like that. I, like, really didn’t like that.”

Adam asks her to get on her hands and knees. He has her crawl to the bedroom. Then, the scene goes from there in the most awkward sex that is dysfunctional and degrading to Shiri. It ends with the conclusion shot that by the way was made from conditioner and Cetaphil for a realistic effect.

“From the beginning, we were aware that what we were doing was sexually provocative, and that’s what made it interesting and new and fun,” Judd Apatow, one of the series writers had to say. “Lena wanted to reveal something that is normally hidden — so often you’re not talking about a giant part of most people’s lives because people don’t want to portray it on film — and that opened up tons of stories that you’re usually not able to tell.”

One thing’s for sure! With thinking like that, the show will always be real. What in the world does this final season have in store?
